HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Traffic was congested outside Terminals A and B of Bush Intercontinental Airport Wednesday afternoon due to a gas leak, according to officials with the Houston Fire Department.

A construction worker hit a gas line with a backhoe outside Terminal B around 12:30 p.m., which caused the gas leak. Additional reports stated that there were no evacuation orders issued but traffic to Terminals A and B was affected.

With no roadway access to Terminal A,  vehicles were diverted by members of the Houston Police Department. Traffic congestion was so heavy that individuals who had flights to board were seen leaving the vehicles they were being transported in and walking several feet to IAH  in an effort to catch their flight on time.

Drivers inside the Terminal B parking garage were not being allowed to leave, and drivers approaching Terminal B were told to drive away.

There was no impact to flights due to the ruptured gas line.

No other information was released at the time of this report.
